Why the lining matters
Estrogen alone can make the uterine lining grow, which raises the risk of endometrial cancer. A progestogen counters that effect.
When it may not be needed
If you have had a hysterectomy, a progestogen is often not needed. Low-dose vaginal estrogen used only for local symptoms may also be handled differently. Tell your clinician your full history.
What to watch for
